I recently asked customers what their sporting goal is for 2016. The great thing about Altitude Dream is that our customers are all dreamers without exception. Dreamers who also make their dreams come true. So I got the most beautiful answers. That goes from winning a medal at the Olympics in Rio to completing someone's very first marathon.
I don't want to be left behind so I set myself the goal to climb Mont Blanc this year. Together with our installer Jelle aka 'Altitude Jelle' we accept the challenge. Jelle is an experienced mountaineer and will be my guide to the top. He has successfully climbed Mont Blanc twice, so I can trust that he will take me safely to the top.
Furthermore, the chances of successfully reaching the summit depend on a thorough condition preparation, good weather and reducing the risk of altitude sickness by acclimatize at home to the height.
Which Mont Blanc route do we choose?
The Mont Blanc For many, Mont Blanc is known as the highest mountain in the Alps. Mont Blanc can be seen from afar and towers over the surrounding valleys. Due to its status, Mont Blanc is also one of the busiest four-thousanders. This is reinforced by the low level of difficulty. The biggest challenge to Mont Blanc is the altitude and therefore the risk of altitude sickness, the climb itself is not very technical so tourists like me can also climb it ;-). Of course you can make the climb more difficult by choosing a difficult or alternative route.
There are four well-known routes to the top of Mont Blanc:
- Goûter route
- Trois Montagne
- Grand Mulets
- Aiguilles grises
On Jelle's advice, we opted for the Goûter route. This route departs from Les Houches, Nid D'Aigle, Cabane de Tête Rousse, refuge du Goûter to the summit. The route is dangerous at certain times of the year, and particularly later in the day, when crossing the Grand Couloir due to crushed stone. So there we have to be sharp and wear a helmet on that short piece. In any case, a nice goal to work towards. We will record preparations for Mont Blanc via this blog 😉
