Bart Meert + 5000m | KilimanjaroDestelbergen
5/55-08-2003With previous experiences, I know for myself that my personal limit (without using medication such as Diamox) is around 4,800m. Nausea and headaches then limit me from going further. For Kilimanjaro, I wanted to do things differently and ended up with Altitude Dream for that. After 5 weeks of altitude trekking, I hoped to be ready for my mission. I followed the Ronkai route, one of the lesser-known routes to the summit, but beautiful and above all much quieter than the more well-known Kilimanjaro routes. After 6 days I was at the summit, without any signs of altitude sickness (apart from little sleep the last night which could also be due to the stress 😊). Diamox was not necessary. Summit day went smoothly. Of course there is the shortness of breath and the cold, but from Kibo hut we were on the roof of Africa after 6h (before sunrise) and that is quite fast. So I am convinced that the altitude tent worked very well for me!
