It remains to be seen whether these students will pass their exams, but as far as their creativity is concerned, they have already won a great distinction. After all, today they are studying in the most crazy and unusual locations, from the shower to a monastery or even in a high altitude tent. The newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws went in search of the most extreme places to study.
The 22-year-old Kim Lamproye from Haacht has had a very special system for many years. "I plasticize all my summaries so that I can review them in the shower," says the final-year psychology student. “I've been doing that myself since high school and it really helps. That other environment really brings me better insights. Especially when I almost have an exam, I take my study schedules in the shower. ”She does not fear a very expensive water invoice. "I don't shower much longer than normal," she laughs.
“I have to keep my condition as good as possible. That is why I now sit every day in a height tent where the air is rarer. "
Top athlete Steven Pauwels (22) from Wezemaal combines cramming for his studies in sports and exercise sciences at the KU Leuven with an altitude training course in a special altitude tent. "I am an ultrarunner and participate in races of up to 100 km," he says. "I have to keep my condition as good as possible. That is why I am now spending 12 hours a day in a high altitude tent where the air is thinner. That way I produce more red blood cells and that improves my performance." Whether studying itself also goes more smoothly this way? "It is small and very hot in the tent. I sometimes have trouble staying awake, but I do hope I will succeed."
