For whom is altitude training interesting?

Height training is based on a technique that has been used since the 1980s to get athletes, pilots, cosmonauts and climbers to get used to altitude. It is, in fact, a simulation of the positive effects of adapting the body to the decreasing oxygen content in the air at higher altitudes. Who does not remember the time you take a mountain trail in the Swiss Alps "just as quickly" and to your great surprise you are out of breath? The air above 1500 meters is rarer and thinner. To build it up aerobic endurance is this ideal.

Height training, what are the benefits?

  • Improve it endurance;
  • Increase in hemoglobin concentration, which ensures that more oxygen is transported to the muscles;
  • Increase in the acidification threshold;
  • Improve it recovery after heavy training;
  • Improving fat burning (to lose weight);
  • Accelerated return at the old training level after injuries.

For whom is altitude training interesting?

  • Everyone who practices sport, from recreational sportsmen to top athletes;
  • Fitness and Wellness users;
  • People who want to lose weight;
  • Preparation for skiing holidays or climbing expeditions to prevent altitude sickness;
  • People with migraine, high blood pressure, fatigue and sleep disorders;
  • During an injury period or immobility to prevent relapse;
  • "Expensive" athletes such as runners, cyclists, skaters and swimmers;
  • Team athletes during the pre-season and winter break. In addition, altitude training proves to be very successful as a natural treatment method against various diseases and disorders such as asthma, COPD, obesity and diabetes.

There are many physiological benefits to be gained through the height training. Some examples are:

  • Through altitude training, the body will automatically make the breathing process more efficient. As a result, an acclimatised person will receive more oxygen through the lungs (improved oxygen transport) with less energy/exertion.
  • Through altitude training, the increased natural epo will increase the volume of red blood cells, which are responsible for oxygen transport to the muscles and organs. This has an increased influence on sports performance and overall fitness.
  • Due to the height training and the associated total number of red blood cells, so does the total blood volume.
  • The capillary network is increased by the height training. These are very small blood vessels around the muscles. The larger this network, the easier the blood can find its way to the muscle cells.
  • The number of mitochondrium will increase due to the height training. The mitochondrium is a rod or spherical cell organelle that functions as a cell's power plant.

Are there direct risks associated with altitude training?

No, there are absolutely no risks associated with altitude training. Indeed, there are many places in the world where people stay permanently at heights. Think for example in the Himalayan areas but also at the many ski resorts. The use of height is almost the same as a good winter sport.

A commercial aircraft is also a hypoxia environment, if your doctor allows you to board a plane, you can also do altitude training.
